Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of the most incredible moments of your life. Those first few weeks are a blur of tiny fingers, sweet snuggles, and sleepy newborn stretches. And while the newborn stage passes quickly, professional photography can freeze those moments in time forever.
But with so many photographers out there, how do you choose the right newborn photographer for your family? Here’s what to consider to ensure you find someone who matches your vision, style, and needs.
The first year of your baby’s life is a whirlwind of growth, change, and precious moments that seem to fly by. From the excitement of pregnancy to the sleepy newborn days and those first wobbly steps, each stage is worth capturing. But with a busy life and a little one to care for, it’s easy to let these milestones slip by without professional photos.
When I hopped on the phone with Christine to discuss her Savin Hill Dorchester Newborn Photographer session, she told me something that I have heard over and over. She wasn’t planning on hiring a professional photographer, but now her baby was 7 weeks old and she realized she only had (not so great) iPhone photos of her! Not only that, but MOM wasn’t in most of them! She really wanted to document this time while her baby is tiny, and ALSO be in the pictures!

Last vacations and starting school and shorts with sweatshirts and so many dahlias and open houses and school meetings and chilly mornings and apple picking field trips and one last bbq and earlier bedtimes and earlier wake ups and soccer Saturdays and birthday parties and a dozen outdoor sessions. And somehow October is next week! I’ll just look at these pretty pictures of a baby to calm myself out of an early fall panic attack 😂

In reality? It often involves snacks, bribes, strong opinions, and at least one child who absolutely refuses pants.
And that’s… totally fine. 😅
The goal of sibling newborn photos isn’t perfect behavior or everyone smiling at the camera at the same time. It’s capturing real moments — curiosity, chaos, cuddles, and the very beginning of a lifelong relationship.
We keep things low-pressure:
• We start with sibling photos while attention spans still exist
• We don’t force hugs (ever)
• We take breaks (lots of them)
• We fully expect some wiggles, wandering, and craziness
Some of the best photos happen between the planned moments — when a toddler leans in unexpectedly, declares the baby “too loud,” or gives a quick kiss and runs away.
Your kids don’t need to cooperate. They just need to show up as themselves.
And honestly? That’s where the good stuff is.
