When I hopped on the phone with Christine to discuss her Savin Hill Dorchester Newborn Photographer session, she told me something that I have heard over and over. She wasn’t planning on hiring a professional photographer, but now her baby was 7 weeks old and she realized she only had (not so great) iPhone photos of her! Not only that, but MOM wasn’t in most of them! She really wanted to document this time while her baby is tiny, and ALSO be in the pictures!
I can totally relate to this, even as a professional photographer. I took endless (iPhone and big camera) photos of my little ones, but the only photos I had with them was of me in sweats and dirty hair, and mostly horrible selfies. I actually did TWO newborn photo sessions (hiring other professionals, of course) with each of my kiddos, and they were worth every penny. There’s nothing worse that looking back at photos from these days and 1. hate every photo that you’re in, or 2. not be in any of them!
It was actually after I had my first baby that I changed my photography business to not only include parents and whole families more into sessions–eventually transitioning fully to family-centered sessions only–but also away from the typical posed studio newborns to a more casual, realistic lifestyle vibe. While the studio is definitely an idealized version of a newborn photo session, I love to pose my families naturally rather than stiff and awkwardly.
I had the best time working with Christine, her husband Ed, and little Charlotte for their Savin Hill Dorchester Newborn Photographer session. She was about 8 weeks old when we took these photos, and in my personal opinion, baby is NEVER too old for a newborn session. Give me smiles and eye contact any day! Mom’s floral dress was a perfect choice and baby’s “Charlotte” outfit is a perfect example of something special to bring to your session. I hope you enjoy these gorgeous photos!
