I’m so excited to work with you! I’ve been photographing babies and families since 2012 and working with my amazing clients is one of my favorite things about this business. I know that every photographer does things a little differently, so I wanted to outline all the details, so you know exactly what to expect.
If you are considering booking a Boston maternity and newborn photographer, but unsure whether you should only book a maternity session, only book a newborn session, or book both? This blog post is for you! Of course, as a professional photographer, I have a special insight into this topic. I also have personal experience with multiple photo sessions with my two little boys.
Boston studio newborn photo session are my absolute favorite. After years of looking at spaces around the Boston area, I opened up my dream studio in Dedham, MA. The studio is designed specifically for newborn sessions, with multiple backdrops to give your photos lots of variety and a client closet for mom and baby. My goal was to create a space that is both a gorgeous setting for photos but also a comfortable space for my new clients, to create the best possible experience. I can’t wait to welcome you into my second home.
While having my studio in Dedham is absolutely amazing, some clients prefer to have in-home newborn or family photo sessions, and I love them! Its fun to shake things up and get my creative juices going by getting out of my regular routine in the studio. But since I am coming to you rather than you coming to me, there are a few things I will ask you to do to prepare before I arrive, to set us up for success!
Maybe you booked your Boston newborn photo session a few months ago when you were in your second trimester of pregnancy and thought eventually you’d shop for an outfit for your newborn session. Fast forward and now you are either quickly approaching your due date or maybe baby is already here and you are realizing that you never got around to buying something! Or, maybe you are a planner and you’re 10 weeks pregnant and already thinking about what you will wear to your newborn session. Either way, this blog post is for both of you.
First of all, don’t worry. We will get gorgeous photos of your baby and your family no matter what you wear!

When I hopped on the phone with this gorgeous mom newborn photo session, she told me something that I have heard over and over. She wasn’t planning on hiring a professional photographer, but now her baby was 7 weeks old and she realized she only had (not so great) iPhone photos of her! Not only that, but SHE wasn’t in most of them! She really wanted to document this time while her baby is tiny, and ALSO be in the pictures!
I’ve had so many studio maternity sessions lately, it’s a gorgeous backdrop option for these colder months!!
As I prep for a 7 week old at the studio… I’m often asked, “how old should my baby be for newborn photos?” Every photographer has a different opinion for the perfect age for newborn photography. My personal preference is 2 weeks. BUT, while there was a time that I felt pretty strongly about this, I really don’t care that much how old your baby is when I photograph them anymore. I’ve actually heard of photographers turning clients away because their babies were “too old.” Is your baby a month old right now? Two months? Email me! I can totally relate to this, even as a professional photographer. I took endless (iPhone and big camera) photos of my little ones, but the only photos I had with them was of me in sweats and dirty hair, and mostly horrible selfies. I actually did TWO newborn photo sessions (hiring other professionals, of course) with each of my kiddos, and they were worth every penny. There’s nothing worse than looking back at photos from these days and 1. hate every photo that you’re in, or 2. not be in any of them!
