Aside from the fact that its a 5-10 minute drive from my house, there are so many reasons that I think the Arnold Arboretum is the best family photos location in Boston (and outdoor maternity photo sessions.) Here are somethings I look for in outdoor shooting locations and why I prefer the Arnold Arboretum for outdoor photos in Boston again and again.
One of the best things about being a photographer with a commercial studio, is I have an awesome alternative location for family photos–my studio! Don’t want to worry about the weather? Looking to take family photos in the Winter? Not sure if your toddler will cooperate during a evening photoshoot? All of these are great reasons to do your family photos in my Boston studio, located conveniently in Dedham, MA. Its true that my studio is designed for newborn photo sessions, but its also a perfect location for family photos!
Here are all the reasons that this Boston family photographer loves doing family photos in my studio rather than outdoors.
You might be thinking, Boston Lifestyle Family Photographer, what? Yes, 95% of my sessions are done in my studio or at the Arboretum. But, I occasionally shoot family sessions in my clients homes. I know this isn’t always ideal for all of my clients (cleaning your house, not enough light indoors, etc.) But if it’s the right fit for you, I’m here for it!
When I’m not photographing little babies in my studio, I am outside making Boston family photos with my clients, year after year! This, by the way, is my favorite part of being a Boston family photographer, I get to see these families grow over the years–many of whom I started working with before their babies were even born, or just weeks after. What could be more special than photographing these families year after year?
The absolute best part about Spring Family Photos in Boston is all of the gorgeous flowering trees. My favorite location for shooting family photos is the Arboretum, and there are a wide range of flowering trees that start in early May and go all the way through June. Because I’ve photographed there almost exclusively for years, I really know the best spots.

The wardrobe she offered up for postpartum moms for the photoshoot. I loved that she provided a link in advance so when I showed up to her studio I already knew what I wanted to try on. I opted to wear my own dress that I brought because my skin tone looks better in bright whites.
The ease! All I had to do was show up and the studio was stocked with food, baby changing table, cozy couch – it’s like showing up to a friends home!
Efficient – Whitney was amazing with my baby and she was able to calm her down and position the baby for beautiful pictures! The time flew and we opted for the larger package because the photos came out fantastic we couldn’t choose!
