Winter maternity photos in Boston: Why I love studio sessions
Its February, which means I’m busy with Winter maternity photos in Boston. This time of year, most of my pregnant clients choose studio maternity photo sessions over outdoor shoots. Obviously, living in Boston, the weather is a major factor for choosing a location for your photos during the winter. While I love snowy family photos when kiddos are a little older and everyone can bundle up and play, maternity sessions are different. Here’s some reasons why my studio is my preferred location for Winter maternity photos in Boston:
No rescheduling for weather
Probably the most obvious reason to choose the studio for your winter maternity photos here in Boston is that you don’t have to worry about rescheduling due to weather. Some days it might be 50 degrees, some days it could be in the teens. Either way, the heat is on in the studio and whether its snowing, raining, freezing or warm, the studio will be a perfect location for your maternity shoot.
Showing off your belly
The reason we’re here is to see that belly! If we shoot outdoors during the Winter, you’ll probably want to bundle up to be warm and comfortable, which means its hard to see your growing belly. In the studio, you can wear that gorgeous dress you picked out, something from my client closet, or intimates without shivering you butt off.
Winter maternity photos Boston: Simple backdrops
I have designed my studio and all the backdrops specifically for maternity and newborn photos, with simple props and neutral colors to ensure that you will love these images forever. The focus isn’t on the background, but on YOU!
Multiple outfit changes
While you’re in the studio, not only will you have access to my client closet with tons of bump friendly dresses that are perfect for your maternity session. These are the kinds of dresses you probably wouldn’t wear normally, and you might not want to invest in just to wear for your photo shoot. In my studio you’re able to try a bunch on, and have multiple outfit changes without having to change behind a tree in the dead of winter!
Consistency with newborn photos
Most of my clients choose my First Year Collection, which includes maternity, newborn, and a milestone or family session within 18 months. (This is a great option that saves you $300!) One thing I love about doing both newborn and maternity sessions in the studio is we can recreate some of the poses and set ups as before/after with your belly and baby. This is perfect for hanging on the wall!
Winter maternity photos Boston: Comfort of the studio experience
In the studio in Winter, you don’t have to feel rushed or worry about people staring at you in the park. Its intimate, comfortable, private, and I even have a bathroom 🙂 Even during warmer months, I love the look and feel of maternity photo sessions in my studio, and personally think its the best location in Boston!
“Whitney was great to work with and very responsive! Her studio was the perfect place for our maternity photos in the middle of winter! I love her style and cannot wait to have her do our newborn photos”

Including siblings in newborn photos sounds sweet in theory.
In reality? It often involves snacks, bribes, strong opinions, and at least one child who absolutely refuses pants.
And that’s… totally fine. 😅
The goal of sibling newborn photos isn’t perfect behavior or everyone smiling at the camera at the same time. It’s capturing real moments — curiosity, chaos, cuddles, and the very beginning of a lifelong relationship.
We keep things low-pressure: • We start with sibling photos while attention spans still exist • We don’t force hugs (ever) • We take breaks (lots of them) • We fully expect some wiggles, wandering, and craziness
Some of the best photos happen between the planned moments — when a toddler leans in unexpectedly, declares the baby “too loud,” or gives a quick kiss and runs away.
Your kids don’t need to cooperate. They just need to show up as themselves.
And honestly? That’s where the good stuff is.

One of the biggest worries parents have before an in-home newborn session is whether their house is “photo-ready.”
Here’s the truth: it doesn’t need to be 🤍
During an in-home newborn session, we use just a few light-filled spots—your bed, the nursery, a cozy corner of the living room, a window with beautiful natural light. Real spaces where life is actually happening right now.
No perfect décor. No spotless counters. No pressure to make your home look like a magazine.
These photos are about connection, comfort, and documenting this fleeting season exactly as it is. The places where you’re feeding your baby at 3am, rocking them to sleep, and slowly finding your rhythm together.
Your home already tells your family’s story. I’m just there to help you remember it.

2025 felt like a year of momentum and gratitude. After some slower behind-the-scenes work in 2024, this past year was my busiest ever — 116 families, including maternity, newborn, and family portraits. I am so grateful to each of you who trusted me with your memories 🤍
I was also deeply humbled to be named Favorite Family Photographer (South of Boston) by Community Kangaroo — thank you to everyone who voted. It means more than I can say.
Some of the things I loved most in 2025: • Launching the First Year Collection (seeing families grow over time has been incredible) • Adding more product options to help you enjoy your photos in your home • Streamlining communication and booking so your experience feels smooth and supportive
Looking ahead, I’m excited about: ✨ Studio upgrades (hello snacks & coffee ☕️!) ✨ Expanded styling + fittings ✨ Giving more love to in-home newborn sessions ✨ Showing up more here on Instagram ✨ Monthly newsletters that are short, helpful, and worth your time
Thank you for being here, for supporting my small business, and for letting me do what I love. I can’t wait to make more memories with you in 2026 🤍
