Rescheduling Your Photo Session for Illness
There are two reasons we might reschedule your session. One (if the session is planned for outdoors) is weather. The other, is illness. As I write this, my oldest is home sick with the stomach bug. The poor thing was up all night throwing up and is home today, watching TV, luckily feeling better. Having two young kiddos, this comes up a lot.
Obviously my main goal for every session is to get amazing photos for my clients, but my number 1 priority is always health and safety of both your family and mine. For illness, there are a few scenarios that come up often, and here is how I handle each of them.
For a newborn session, if I am sick, we reschedule, even if I feel well enough to work. I could not live with myself if a baby got sick because of me and ended up having to go to the hospital. During the first weeks, even “just a cold” could be very serious for a newborn and I will not risk it. If I am actively sick, I will also reschedule family & maternity session.
For an outdoor session, if I am sick but healthy enough to feel up to working, I let you know and give you the option to reschedule. For example, the end of a cold when I’m not actively sneezing or coughing, and we’re going to be outdoors without any contact.
If my kids are sick, but I feel 100% fine, I let you know and give you the option to reschedule. I am happy to wear a mask and not touch anyone, and obviously I wash my hands/use hand sanitizer before touching babies anyways. With two kiddos, this comes up fairly often and parents choose to keep or reschedule pretty evenly. On some occasions, I will need to reschedule because of childcare, but typically my husband is able to watch them.
If your kids are sick, please let me know and we can decide what to do together. Firstly, if older siblings are sick during a newborn session, I don’t want to bring germs into the studio that could impact other families who will be coming in, and I don’t want to get sick myself. Additionally, sick kiddos are not typically as cooperative and happy, which effects your images. You’re investing in this session and I want you to get the best possible images. If we’re able to reschedule, I’m happy to do that.
Generally, my policy is to be open and honest on both sides about illness, so no one feels blindsided when we get together, and we keep safety for everyone as our top priority. Obviously, rescheduling is never convenient, but sometimes, rescheduling your photo session for illness its the best option!
