Preparing for your Newborn Session

Preparing for Your Newborn SessionYay your baby is finally here! Congratulations! I cannot wait to meet your little one and photograph their cuteness. Here’s all the information on how preparing for your newborn session:

WHERE AM I GOING?

My studio is located in my home at 25 Brown Ave, Roslindale. Its the green house on the corner of Seymour and Brown. You can park in my driveway, on the Seymour side. If you’re having any trouble finding the house, feel free to call my cell 508-254-6652

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

There are a few things you can do to help our chances of a happy, sleepy baby:

  1. Feed baby right before you leave for your session. Hopefully, baby will be full and sleepy when you arrive, and we can get started right away!
  2. Keep baby awake for a few hours before you come. The sleepier, the better! I totally understand that this may not coincide with your current nap schedule, but the more baby sleeps, the quicker and easier the entire session will be. Try giving her a bath or just playing with her to keep her awake.
  3. Dress baby in a zip up sleeper that won’t have to go over their head and wake them up.
  4. If you are breastfeeding, please refrain from eating spicy foods 24 hours before your session.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Please bring plenty of formula or pumped milk, or be prepared to nurse during the session. The key to keeping baby asleep is a full belly! Please also bring extra diapers and wipes, and a pacifier (even if she doesn’t usually use one).

Feel free to bring an ipad or a book if you’d like. I’ll have you feed baby during the session to keep her sleeping, but for the most part, you can sit back and relax (and nap if you want!) You are more than welcome to bring drinks and snacks as well.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

I’ll have the heat WAY up (80ish degrees) to keep baby comfortable, as she will be naked for most of the session. Please be prepared to dress accordingly as well! If you want to do parent shots, let I suggest moms wear white, black, or nude colored tank tops and dads wear plain white or black t shirts. Your pants won’t be in the shot, so feel free to wear sweats or leggings, whatever is most comfortable. I also suggest bringing a change of clothes, just in case of an accident!

WILL BABY BE NAKED?

I usually start the session by leaving baby’s diaper on and wrapping them up, as this makes them the most comfortable and sleepy. Once we’ve gotten through the wrapped poses, baby is usually ready for a change and a feed, and the second half of the session, including parent shots, is done naked. “Accidents” are totally normal and I’m very used to being around naked babies, so don’t worry! I expect it—everything is washable. Again, bringing a change of clothes is always a good idea.

Some babies absolutely hate being naked and just can’t get comfortable. In that case, I will continue doing wrapped poses to get you as many shots as possible. My goal is to get as many happy or sleepy baby photos for you as possible. Naked is great, but variety is better!

DO I NEED TO BRING PROPS?

I have tons of backgrounds, hats, headbands, and props, but let me know if there are specific colors you like or dislike. For girls I usually do pinks, purples, greys, and creams. For boys I have blues, greens, greys, creams, and tans.

HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION BE?

Sessions are customized to you. They typically last 2-3 hours, depending on how well baby sleeps. If at any time you are DONE, just let me know! My goal is just to get you as many great shots as I can, but I understand you are exhausted, and this is a long time.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After your session is over, I’ll have the photos edited and ready for you to view within two weeks. At this point you can choose your package and products. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any other questions, otherwise, I will see you soon! I hope this helped you in preparing for your newborn session!
