Yay your baby is finally here! Congratulations! I cannot wait to meet your little one and photograph their cuteness. Here’s all the information on how preparing for your newborn session:
WHERE AM I GOING?
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?
There are a few things you can do to help our chances of a happy, sleepy baby.
- If you are breastfeeding, please refrain from eating spicy foods 24 hours before your session.
- Keep baby awake for a few hours before you come. The sleepier, the better! I totally understand that this may not coincide with your current nap schedule, but the more baby sleeps, the quicker and easier the entire session will be.
- Dress baby in a zip up sleeper that won’t have to go over their head and wake them up.
- Feed baby right before you leave for your session. Hopefully, baby will be full and sleepy when you arrive, and we can get started right away!
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Please bring plenty of formula or pumped milk, or be prepared to nurse during the session. The key to keeping baby asleep is a full belly!
Please also bring extra diapers and wipes, and a pacifier (even if she doesn’t usually use one).
Feel free to bring an ipad or a book if you’d like. I’ll have you feed baby during the session to keep her sleeping, but for the most part, you can sit back and relax (and nap if you want!)
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
I’ll have the heat WAY up (80 degrees) to keep baby comfortable, as she will be naked for most of the session. Please be prepared to dress accordingly as well! If you want to do parent shots, let I suggest wearing natural colored, plain shirts or tank tops. When preparing for your newborn session, you may want to bring a change of clothes, just in case of an accident!
WILL BABY REALLY BE NAKED?
YES! I usually start the session leaving baby’s diaper on and wrapping them up, and the second half of the session is done totally naked. “Accidents” are totally normal and I’m very used to being around naked babies, so don’t worry! I expect it—everything is washable.
DO I NEED TO BRING PROPS?
I have tons of backgrounds, hats, headbands, and props, but let me know if there is a specific color you’re interested in. For girls I usually do pinks, purples, greys, and creams. For boys I have blues, greys, creams, browns, and green. I prefer to incorporate a lot of neutrals so they will look good hanging on your walls.
HOW LONG WILL THE SESSION BE?
Sessions are customized to you. The session will last anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on how well baby sleeps. If at any time you are DONE, just let me know! My goal is just to get you as many great shots with a variety as I can, but I understand you are probably exhausted, and this is a long time.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
After your session is over, I’ll have the photos edited and ready for you within two weeks. I’ll send you a link where you can download the files, and use your print credit! Please feel free to give me a call if you have any other questions, otherwise, I will see you soon! I hope this helped you in preparing for your newborn session!
